This Sunday Alex and I took Ava to the Chinese Moon Festival and she was over the moon with all the cool stuff she got to see and do. Paper fans, accordion dragons, colorful lanterns, and butterfly headbands. Ava, the original June Soul Baby, had her hands full. The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as The Chinese Moon Festival, is an offering to the moon in autumn. You can read the origin story here. I love taking photos of Ava. Seeing her personality emerge and the way she says my full name when she addresses me is hilarious, "Alejandra! Come sit down!" The staff at the festival were more than helpful as they helped her glue, tie, fold, and tape her masterpieces together. She'd finish a project and then want nothing to do with it, "I don't want it!" The way her tongue sticks out with a glue stick in hand emulates Alex's habits as a toddler and melts our heart!
I've known Alex since we were 14 and have seen each other through quinceañeras, school, jobs, boyfriends, and now her daughter. I can't get over how quickly time flies and how fab Alex makes motherhood look. Ava is such a joy and I'll be sharing more of her as time goes on.
